I'm a graphic designer. When I'm bored, I like to create random logos, signs, license plates, etc. and one afternoon I had an idea for a bookstore brand. But not just any standard-issue bookstore. Departure Books is a concept driven by our ability to travel and experience the world around us through printed and bound media. We don't have to leave our comfy couches to feel the crisp Danish breeze in our hair or the warmth of fresh broth from a bowl of Japanese ramen in our bellies. I'll admit these experiences might be better in-person, but in the age of a global pandemic... we take what we can get.
Someday I hope to open a brick-and-mortar shop that transports each visitor to their favorite airport or train station, waiting in anticipation for their journey to begin... each book, a ticket for departure. I see mid-century modern (-inspired, I'm not made of money) furnishings, vintage luggage with well-known book titles stuck to them like destinations, framed travel posters on the walls, and a showpiece split-flap message board. For now, Departure Books is just a social media presence; an idea whose time will hopefully come soon. So stick around and give us a follow, like, or share. We know you have many options when it comes to social media accounts, so thank you for choosing Departure Books. |
